Olympus Corporation (オリンパス株式会社, Orinpasu Kabushiki-gaisha) is a Japanese manufacturer of optics and reprography products. Olympus was established on 12 October 1919, initially specializing in microscopes and thermometers. Olympus holds roughly a 70-percent share of the global endoscope market, estimated to be worth approximately US$2.5 billion. Its global headquarters are located in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

A former employee shares his experience on indeed.com, "Women do not hold positions of leadership as much as men at Olympus. They downsize and/or restructure frequently resulting in layoffs. The senior leadership from the president down base their layoffs on keeping people they like."

"I'll wait for someone from HR will comment and say negative reviews are from disgruntled former employees but in the meantime avoid this place at all cost compared to their competitors!....Never before have I seen so many people just describe a place as just a job and come to work in such a sterile atmosphere. The interview really seemed like a bait and switch between what they showed on their corporate video and what I saw when I got there. So far there has been nothing good to say and I cannot wait to leave."

"Everything... The place is very corrupt from every angle (just check the news). They will ruin your life and keep moving on with a smile. I worked there and they did it to so many people. It is not normal what they do to people there. You will be stuck in the same position with little or no raise. You will be overworked if you are salary. We actually calculated it for the amount of hours put in and we were getting paid $10.21 an hour. There is nowhere to go unless you a fellow which are people with zero exp but are made managers for no reason whatsoever. Do not expect any help from the HR side for anything either. They are there for SR Managers and above. They don't care about you. You are nothing to them. I was there for a very long time so I saw it all. ****Please believe the other reviews and not take the chance unless you are desperate. They lie about everything and they outsource everything. **** Just an Example of what they do to ruin lives which they did to a lot of people: They provide me a pension payout and mess it up and I am now required to pay back due to their mistake (Which I understand). I am just a regular person and used the money to pay off expenses during this time of hardship. They are now threatening me with penalties since I don't have the money. They offer me no help with this besides threatening letters. I am sure this is another Olympus scam so I did go to the news and they are investigating it. One person I know is now losing a house since they used that money for a down payment."

"You will never see more people "pass the buck" than at this place. No one ever seems to know where orders come from. They just tell you it's coming from their boss. Everyone always says they're just following orders, but they don't really know who it's actually coming from. Every time they build a new machine for the assembly, they optimistically guess how parts it can produce and they call their bosses in Japan and let know this information like it's fact, then they tell the line workers their quota is based on this imaginary figure and that they have somehow make it happen. Before I left, this kind of scenario had us working 84 hours a week for 3 months straight. First, they said it would just be a month, then said it would be for just one more month, and finally just one more month. That's the legal limit for the number of hours worked and for a company to do that three months straight is a slimy move. At the same time this was going on, Human Resources was harrassing me about them overpaying me after I was already reassured by two former managers this was okay, because they were calling me to work on days I was supposed to be off. HR didn't start this harrassment until both managers were gone, so I had no witnesses, but one manager didn't quit. He moved to another Olympus plant, and the HR lady refused to even talk to him, and said it wasn't his problem. It was mine. This is HR telling me her job is to protect Olympus, not me."
